Team Search

The Gemstone Honors Program's main focus is multidisciplinary undergraduate team research. Students propose project ideas and through a process of discussions, presentations, and voting get placed onto research teams. Teams of students work with an assigned faculty mentor for the next three years. The guideline for where teams should be in their research over those three years is outlined in the Timeline for Team Success document.

Gemstone Leadership Council

The Gemstone Leadership Council is a student group that aims to improve and support the Gemstone Program, through three different areas: social events, academic support and campus leadership. More information about the Core 5, GLC’s centralized leadership team, and the different Steering Committees are included below.

Student Engagement

There are lots of great ways to get involved with the Gemstone Program! The Gemstone Program is not solely about academics! There are a number of social events throughout the year, such as Welcome Week festivities, Gems Formal, and more!

Team Librarian Resources

Librarians for Gemstone Teams provide research guidance and support and help Gemstone Teams produce excellent, well researched theses.

Gemstone Awards

The Gemstone awards program was started more than ten years ago to reward students, mentors, teams, and librarians that have worked extremely hard throughout this four year process.  Award winners are announced at the Gemstone Citation Ceremony and Awards Celebration, held in May of each year. Parents, families, friends, and alumni are all invited to attend, as the event is open to the public!

Thesis Guidelines

The thesis is the culmination of the three years of work in a Gemstone team. The thesis should demonstrate the team’s knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the field, a critical analysis of related work, and the importance and relevance of the team’s contribution to the field.
