David Lovell, Ph.D.

Dr. David Lovell serves as the Director of the Gemstone Honors Program in the Honors College at the University of Maryland. Dr. Lovell received his B.A. degree in Mathematics from Portland State University, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

Dr. Lovell is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and he holds a joint appointment in the Institute for Systems Research. He is also a member of the Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computing program. Dr. Lovell serves as the faculty advisor to the UMD post of the Society for American Military Engineers. He has also served as faculty advisor to the Engineers Without Borders and Maryland Sustainability Engineers student chapters. Dr. Lovell is co-director of the NEXTOR III consortium for aviation operations research.
