Gems Camp is the Gemstone Honors Program's two-night, off campus orientation program designed to help incoming Gemstone students transition to the University of Maryland and the Gemstone Honors Program prior to the first day of classes. Campers participate in fun team building activities and meet new students while learning valuable information about UMD and Gemstone. If living on campus, students have the added benefit of moving in early.
At Gems Camp, first-year students immediately develop a diverse social network of fellow classmates, upperclassmen, and Gemstone staff. You will start college with the pride and excitement of a True Terp along with an introduction of campus culture & traditions!

Gems Camp 2018 Move In & Other Important Details
Our Gems Camp Planning Committee has been working hard for the past several months to plan the best Gems Camp experience yet! As you know, attending Gems Camp allows you to move into Ellicott Hall (or another on-campus residence hall) early; therefore, we wanted to provide you with some additional information for move-in day on TUESDAY, AUGUST 21st:
Please note the following information related to Gems Camp Move In & Departure:
If you are living on campus you likely have already received the general move-in informational email from the Department of Resident Life, which lists the move-in date for incoming Honors College first-year students as Thursday, August 23rd. Please note that the Department of Resident Life does not send out special information for Gems Camp, but you are approved to move in on Tuesday, August 21st anytime between 9am-1pm! Additionally, you do NOT have to complete an "early arrival" request form.
If you are not living in Ellicott Hall or living off campus, be sure to arrive at the Ellicott Hall first floor lobby no later than 2:30pm to check-in for Gems Camp. We depart for camp sharply at 3:30pm, so please be prepared with your bags packed for Gems Camp. You should be able to enter Ellicott Hall by using your university ID.
All students attending Gems Camp should report to the Gemstone Suite (Ellicott Hall basement level) at 3pm with camp bags packed and ready for departure!
When you arrive to campus on Tuesday, pull up in front of Ellicott Hall, where you will unload your belongings. Once you have unloaded, your vehicle must be relocated to Stadium Drive Garage, where parking is free for the day with the attached parking permit . You may download and print the move-in permit HERE in advance, but we will also have copies available at the Ellicott Hall front desk on move-in day. Please refer to the campus visitor map for directions to Ellicott Hall (building #256), where the Gemstone Suite and Gems Camp Check-In is located.
