Three of our seniors, Daniel Klawson, Sara Pohland, and Eddie Salvatierra, received Departmental awards from ECE! To view the news story, please click here.

Additionally, Rachel Wills and Mariama Barrie received BioE awards, Nicolette received a Civil Engineering award, and Eli Fastow received an award with Materials Science!

Congratulations to three Gemstone students who were named to the Maryland Medallion Society and are finalists for UMD's three biggest awards for undergraduates: the H.C. Byrd Award, the Sally Sterling Byrd Award and the Wilson H. Elkins Award.

Congratulations to Kayla Foster (ACID) and Audrey Krimm (E-JUSTICE) who also won university awards. Kayla won the Kirwan award (single junior selected) and Audrey won the Kehoe award from RecWell.

Congratulations to Russell Schwartz (LEMMA) His Research Paper, “Robust Multi-Agent Task Assignment in Failure-Prone and Adversarial Environments” has been selected to receive one of this year’s Winston Family Honors Awards.

Our Gemstone students travel all over the country (and world) to present their research! Seniors Arjun Agarwal and Daniel Klawson from Team OPTIC recently traveled to San Diego to present a poster at the 2020 American Geophysical Union’s Ocean Sciences Meeting! Their research focuses on proposing optical wireless communication links for live time monitoring of fragile ocean environments.

Congratulations to former Gemstone mentors Mark Fuge and Ryan Sochol, who have received the NSF career award.

Mark Fuge is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering who received this award to fund his project "Learning Design Representations: The Effect of Differential Geometric Manifolds on the Inference of Design Structure". To learn more about Mark Fuge's award click here.

Ryan Sochol is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering who recieved this award to fund his project "High-Aspect-Ratio Multi-Material Three-Dimensional Microstructures via Microfluidic Direct Laser Writing".To learn more about Ryan Sochol's award click here.
