Gems Camp 2013: Turning Back Time
Gems Camp is the University of Maryland Gemstone Program's extended orientation program designed to aid incoming students in their transition from high school to college ad into the ranks of the Gemstone living-learning program.
By moving in before the rest of campus, students who attend Gems Camp get to adjust to the dynamics of college with 150 of their soon-to-be-life-long best friends before the campus is populated with over 37,000 students. Camp leaders are sophomore, junior, and senior Gemstone students who will be peer mentors and facilitators in the adjusting process as well as a friend to each camper during and long after camp ends.
At Gems Camp, freshmen immediately develop a diverse social network of fellow classmates, upperclassmen, and Gemstone staff. You will start college with the pride and excitement of a True Terp along with an introduction of campus culture & traditions!

Important Dates:
- Payment and registration is due no later than August 1.
- Gems Camp will be August 27-August 29.
Scholoarship Information:
Several $70 scholarships for Gems Camp are available to students that demonstrate strong financial need. A copy of your financial aid package from the University of Maryland must be sent to lkreimer@umd.edu by July 25, 2013 for eligibility for a scholarship. If you are applying for a scholarship, please aslo submit your Gems Camp registration from online by July 25, and select "pay by check" as your payment method. Do not send ANY money at the time of application. You will be notified whether or not you receive a scholarship and will be instructed of the amount to send in to confirm your spot.
